China Visa Companion — Privacy Policy

China Visa Companion is a Chrome extension by FamilyDocs.ai that helps users prepare data for the China Online Visa Application (COVA). Most profile data is stored locally in the browser. Certain optional AI features send user-provided files to FamilyDocs.ai for processing.

1. Information Stored Locally

The extension stores the following in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local):

• Visa application profiles and checklist state
• Profile names and active profile selection
• Language preference and UI settings
• AI feature state (welcome-banner dismissal, resume-gate progress)

This data remains on your device until you edit or delete it, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension.

2. Information Sent Over the Network

The extension does not send profile data to FamilyDocs.ai during normal editing, validation, checklist use, import/export, or popup copy workflows.

Data is sent only when you choose optional cloud-powered features:

Extension token request

• Endpoint: https://api.familydocs.ai
• Purpose: obtain a short-lived token for cloud AI requests
• Data sent: product/source identifier only

Resume AI parsing

• Trigger: you upload a resume file for cloud parsing
• Data sent: uploaded file and request metadata
• Purpose: extract work and education history
• Retention: up to 30 days

Passport scan

• Trigger: you upload a passport image for AI extraction
• Data sent: uploaded passport image
• Purpose: extract passport and identity fields for your review

Visa photo processing

• Trigger: you upload a photo for visa-photo processing
• Data sent: uploaded photo
• Purpose: create a visa-photo output for download

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the extension's visa-preparation workflow
• To save profiles locally for you
• To validate application data
• To process optional AI features you request

4. What We Do NOT Do

• We never sell your personal data or documents
• We never use your data for advertising
• We never use your uploads to train AI models
• The extension does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs

5. Data Sharing

The extension shares data only with FamilyDocs.ai services required to perform the optional AI features described above. We do not share your data with any other third parties except as required by law.

6. Security

• Network requests are made over HTTPS
• Local profile data is stored in Chrome extension storage on your device
• The extension requests only the permissions it needs: storage and access to api.familydocs.ai

7. Data Retention

• Local profile data: retained until you delete it or remove the extension
• Resume uploads: up to 30 days on FamilyDocs.ai servers
• Passport and photo uploads: processed and not retained beyond what is needed for the service

8. Your Choices

• Use the extension without any cloud AI tools
• Manually enter all visa information
• Delete profiles from the extension at any time
• Clear all data by removing the extension or clearing extension storage

9. Children

The extension is not intended for unsupervised use by children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.
